VARIETIES OF LOCKS AND BOLTSA FINAL WORD |
If that does not give you enough possible permutations,
remember that your lock might have to be left handed or right handed,
that you can design the case and fixing plates in anyway you like and
that ….
The lock makers had to decide for which of all the possible locks they could make they might be able to find a market. And they would need to be constantly designing new locks and security systems. And they would probably make one offs and limited runs for other special purposes. That might be enough to show that there were plenty of different sorts of bolts to keep lots of people busy in Wolverhampton and the rest of the lock making area. But remember that was Parkes' lists were all made in 1968 and 1968 was a long while ago. Things will have got a lot more complicated since then. - just think of those locks, beloved by company offices, into which you have to punch a combination of numbers; or those locks, beloved by hotel keepers, which you have to operate by pushing a thing that looks like a credit card into it. And I haven't even mentioned the possible variations on safes,
vaults, deposit boxes and so forth and so on. |
That's the end of all this stuff about the variety of locks. |
